Opportunities to Get Connected and Serve!
ERLC-CAER Food Shelf Volunteer Sign UpCAER is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit. Their mission is to fight hunger in the local communities they serve (Elk River, Otsego & Zimmerman). They have given 40 years of service to our area. Elk River Lutheran Church rotates with other local churches and we have the opportunity to send volunteers to CAER one week per month on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (unless a holiday is on one of the days of the week we are assigned). From January through June we schedule volunteers in the mornings of the designated week. Beginning in July through December, ERLC is scheduled to provide volunteers in the afternoon shift. Shifts last approximately 2.5 hours.
LOCATION The CAER foodshelf is located at 12621 Elk Lake Road (right in front of Meadowvale Elementary). The volunteers enter from the backside of the building to allow the shoppers to park in front. JOBS Meat from Cooler: Get the meat (which can be heavy in some cases) that the shopper requests out of the cooler. Greeter: Greet those who are coming in to shop for food. Bagger: Bag the groceries for the shopper and perhaps walk out with them to load the groceries if needed. (May also be asked to serve as a gopher getting items from the back or stocking shelves.) Count/Check Out: Count the items the shopper has when they come to check out. (There is a limit depending upon size of the family) |
