Stained Glass Project
Completed with the Help of Assembly Assembly! Artist Dennis Roberts, of Fredericksburg, Texas, has designed a pattern, created the frame, and pre-cut glass for a stained glass window for a new ELCA congregation. Assembly participants are asked to place the glass in the pattern Dennis designed on Monday and Tuesday and then he will complete the window in the following days. The stained glass window project can be found in Hall B.
This window was designed for Elk River Lutheran Church in Elk River, Minn. This is a congregation under development that was formed when Central Lutheran Church in Elk River voted to leave the ELCA. This dedicated group that chose to remain in the ELCA moved quickly to establish worship and keep an ELCA presence in Elk River. Initially, the group of just over 100 people met at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for worship on Sunday evenings, but they outgrew that space within a matter of months. Elk River Lutheran Church has continued to grow rapidly and, today, this congregation under development, has over 300 people in worship and moved into its own building on the banks of the Mississippi River, purchased on its behalf by the Mission Investment Fund. In gratitude for Elk River Lutheran Church’s commitment to the ELCA and in celebration of the ELCA’s 25th anniversary, a stained glass window will be made by the voting members of the assembly to be displayed in Elk River Lutheran Church's new location.
